Yes! I have started sewing squares together for my T quilt. And I hate it. Hate hate hate it*. This is going to suck. Part of the reason is because I have a crappy cheap sewing machine that likes to eat my little white squares. The white fabric is a bit thinner than the colored fabric and when I sew two white squares together about 50% of the time my machine will just eat the first little corner and not sew the rest of it. It is incredibly annoying.
Another part is because I hand cut the colored squares but rotary cut the white squares so all of the colored fabrics are slightly larger than 1.5 inches. Just enough for corners not to align properly from line to line. Ugh! Not to mention the ripping out and re-sewing because squares don't line up, the rip out and resew again only to realize I sewed the wrong sides together.
So here is my first "square." It's somewhere in the center because I didn't want to do a lot of white squares just yet (I haven't decided where I am going to put my boston fabric in the white squares). Yes, my print out of the quilt is in black and white because our printer is being dumb and thinks it is out of color ink.
And for fun, here is a shot of my sewing workspace in action, nothing has been cleaned up or posed.
In Oh Franssons! original Tokyo Subway map, she assembled her quilt in blocks of 8x8 so I thought I would do the same. Which I like. But no more sewing for me tonight or else I will really tear out all of my hair. Next up: a giant glass of wine.
*I have since sewn more of the T quilt and it turns out I was just having a bad night. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I've also planned and cut my boston fabric for the quilt to, so that's exciting. But my arms are too tired from shoveling snow to do any more today.
